Milpitas, CA - DISC Inc. (NASDAQ: DCSR), a leading manufacturer of automated
library solutions for enterprise storage, announced today that it has
joined the FibreAlliance - an EMC sponsored association of vendors driving
open software standards for managing Storage Area Networks (SANs).
Formed in February 1999, the FibreAlliance is an association of leading
providers of Fibre Channel-based SAN components, including hubs, switches,
host bus adapters, routers, servers, management software as well as complete-solution
providers. The alliance's goal is to develop standards and processes for
ensuring interoperable software tools for managing SAN interconnect devices.
In joining the FibreAlliance, DISC partners with some 40 other members
with the common objective of helping customers implement Fibre Channel-based
storage networks effectively and rapidly.
"Becoming a member of the FibreAlliance enables DISC not only to
keep up with the changing standards in the SAN marketplace, but also helps
shape the future of SAN connectivity standards," said J. Richard
Ellis, President and CEO. "Today's growing global enterprises demand
an open system of connectivity that supports multi-vendor platforms, and
this will only be possible through open industry initiatives like the
FibreAlliance," Ellis continued. "We are pleased to have the
opportunity to help direct, establish and set the pace for the emerging
generation of SAN management standards."
"DISC's membership in the FibreAlliance clearly demonstrates its
commitment to provide customers with heterogeneous SAN inter-operability,"
said Don Swatik, EMC's Vice President of Strategic Planning. "As
more and more customer-focused companies such as DISC join the FibreAlliance,
the SAN industry moves one step closer to a goal shared by all open SAN
vendors, and that is to provide customers with SAN management solutions
based on open industry standards."
Comprising leading SAN component vendors, the goal of the FibreAlliance
is to establish and promote standard methods for managing Fibre Channel
(FC) enterprise Sans These common methods will provide FibreAlliance members
and their customers higher functionality and enhanced integration of FC-based
products, resulting in simplified SAN management, enhanced performance
and higher productivity; all leading to more rapid and effective deployment
of enterprise Sans
