SAN DIEGO, CA - BakBone Software (TSE: BKB, OTC: BKBOF), a global
provider of storage management software, announced today a strategic OEM
agreement with DISC, a manufacturer of automated solutions for enterprise
storage. The agreement enables DISC to distribute a private-labeled version
of BakBone's industry-leading MagnaVault software for UNIX-based
optical storage management, giving enterprise customers the ability to
rapidly archive and access documents and other images on optical disks,
including CDS, DVDs, and magneto-optical (MO) media.
"After carefully reviewing the market and extensive testing of competitive
nearline storage management software, BakBone's MagnaVault emerged as
the clear winner, an ideal fit for DISC's broad range of optical-based
storage automation and NAS products," said Bob Riland, Vice President
of Marketing and Sales at DISC, Inc.
MagnaVault version 2.2.6, released earlier this month, contains device
drivers, file systems and jukebox management software for a wide range
of optical libraries and drives running on Linux-based systems. An optical
library appears as a standard file system that is completely transparent
to existing applications, databases, and tools. Users can browse the contents
of the jukebox as if the files were on a hard drive, with MagnaVault transparently
scheduling and managing access to media in the jukebox.
MagnaVault's file systems are designed and optimized for removable optical
storage media. They support disk caching, while files and directories
are accessed transparently using standard system utilities and applications.
All file system data is contained on the optical media itself, which means
that the media is portable to other machines and platforms, and it ensures
that the data on the disk is intact in case of hard drive failures on
the server.
"BakBone's OEM business strategy is to partner with industry-leading
companies to provide added value and new distribution channels for MagnaVault,"
said Barry Mattingly, Senior Director of OEM Sales at BakBone. "DISC
is a recognized leader in optical storage automation and nearline storage
management solutions with a very impressive customer base, and we are
pleased that DISC has chosen MagnaVault to be an integral part of its
core technology offerings."
